Milking machine annoys neighbours

Farming PR involves reducing impact on neighbours and the public

Alan Ramsey's neighbours are fed up with the noise from his milking machine.  For them, it has become the unacceptable face of farming. All farmers are well aware of the need for the best public relations. This means when reacting positively, when ever possible, to problems that are caused by farming operations. For Alan, this meant solving the problem of his milking machine.

He called Farm Ideas to find a low cost answer to the problem.

He told Farm Ideas his Gascoigne plant is serviceable and undamaged and regularly inspected.  It has always had a loud bark. He knew that a call to the dealer might provide an answer, but with a hefty price tag.  Alan remembered Farm Ideas featuring a solution to the problem. It was in fact published in 1999, Vol 8 issue 3. He'd lost the issue and his subscription had lapsed.

He called 01994 240978 for details, buy the back issue and take out a new subscription. His back issue copy will be posted to him today.

Sharing solutions to farming problems

There are few farming problems which are not shared by others, sometimes many hundreds. Many of these can be solved as effectively by some ingenious DIY as they can by spending lots of money.
Alan's back issue cost him £3.75, and the two year sub £26.50. His last issue on this sub will be Summer 2009.  He will get more than 300 new farming ideas.

Ignoring the noise problem from his milking machine could cost him much more.  Neighbours, particularly if they're new to the area, can cause trouble.  Complaints to the council can be followed by letters from solicitors, and the whole issue gets very mucky.
Of-course, it would be even better if Alan could find the answer for free, from a funded practical advice service, but no such scheme exists. There's no way Alan would find the farmer who made the milking machine silencer to beat all the others.  Alan lives near Stranraer in Scotland and the inventor in Exeter!

Practical Farm Ideas carries no advertising, and receives no funding other than that from readers and subscribers.  Hence the need to charge.
