Stretching a cable covered with alkathene down a feed trough makes an effective feeding barrier that keeps the cows out of the trough, yet allows them to stretch out to get feed without pushing as they do with solid feed barriers. Using a diet feeder, Chris needed to be able to slide the cable away, as it got in the way of the flow of feed.
