Just a note to let you know how we have enjoyed reading Practial Farm Ideas. It's one of the best farm magazines we have had for a long time and will pass it around for our friends to read - it's so interesting that you just can't put it down. Keep up the good work!

Lambing aid tips ewe into perfect position for difficult delivery

Downloadable Report - Format PDF

Price: £1.99

Manipulating multiple lambs inside the ewe is often made difficult because the ewe is pushing. The shepherd needs to get the lambs further inside, and it helps to have the ewe tilted so her head is lower than her rear end. Farmers will lift the back end up and prop it on a bale or even their knee.

This article shows how to make a simple rack which holds the ewe at an angle you can adjust. You can leave her in position and go to the truck for cords or other aids. It takes about an hours time in the workshop and uses some lengths of box steel. It will cost no more than £10 in materials to make.

Ingenious. The shepherd who made it says it has definitely saved emergency trips to the vets surgery; saved the lives of lambs and ewes. The rack goes in the truck and is used when lambing outdoors as well as in the pen.
