Who is behind Practical Farm Ideas?
MIke Donovan is a Reading graduate (Agric Econ) who worked for the Economist Intelligence Unit and the Financial Times before leaving London to farm in West Wales. He became interested in how farmers adapted and made implements to help make the work easier, and used his welding skills (from the Training Board) to make a few useful things, including one of the first grassland aerators in 1988. It seemed a pity that ideas stayed on individual farms and, to make them more available, in 1992 he published #1 Vol1-1 of Practical Farm Ideas. He believes in a clear writing style and has had many letters published in the Times. |
